Top Selling MLB Jerseys

by Joe

Go to a Major League Baseball game and you are sure to see hundreds, if not thousands, of fans wearing baseball jerseys. They buy a jersey to support their favorite player, they buy a jersey to support their team, or they buy it for a fashion statement. Whatever the reason baseball jerseys are hot right now. With the football labor dispute turning off many fans I think baseball will be more popular this year than in the past few years.

I am always intrigued by the top selling MLB jersey lists and this year is no excpetion. There are a few suprises but it is interesting to see which players fans are supporting and in someways it is a good way to gauge who the most popular players are. So here is the most recent list of best selling MLB jerseys:

#10: Tim Lincecum – San Francisco Giants

#9: Alex Rodriguez – New York Yankees

#8: Dustin Pedroia – Boston Red Sox

#7: Josh Hamilton – Texas Rangers

#6: Albert Pujols – St. Louis Cardinals

#5: Cliff Lee – Philadelphia Phillies

#4: Chase Utley – Philadelphia Phillies

#3: Roy Halladay – Philadelphia Phillies

#2: Joe Mauer – Minnesota Twins

#1: Derek Jeter – New York Yankees

So the Philadelphia Phillies have 3 of the top 10 best selling MLB Jerseys and the Yankees have two of the spots. Overall if you were to look at the top 20 best selling jerseys you would see 11 teams represented but big market teams like the Cubs, Dodgers, and Mets have no players on the list.

As far as top 10 teams in overall merchandise sales (not just jerseys):

1. New York Yankees

2. Boston Red Sox

3. Los Angeles Dodgers

4. Philadelphia Phillies

5. Chicago Cubs

6. St. Louis Cardinals

7. Chicago White Sox

8. Atlanta Braves

9. Minnesota Twins

10. Detroit Tigers
