The Uniform of the Giants and its Development

The franchise that follows sports teams is enormous. This includes baseball, as every fan of MLB will know. Each team has a different jersey, with their own unique design denoting the team name. This is no exception for the San Francisco Giants, who have had a number of design changes over the years.

The history of the development of the design is an interesting one. If a fan of the team is playing partypoker and someone wearing the Giants’ uniform comes on the television, they are sure to recognize the colors instantly. This is because the design of each team’s logo becomes something with which they can be instantly associated.

It started in 1958 with their move from New York. At this time, the Giants kept the same look that they had used on their previously, only changing the actual name. It was not until 15 years later that the team changed their uniform more noticeably in San Francisco. This consisted of switching the colors of the letters so that the orange was dominant over the black.

A significant change came in 1977, when the Giants moved with the times by changing from their previous button-down style, to a top that can be pulled over the player’s head. The trousers were also altered, to remove the necessity for a belt. Also, the font of the team name was changed and the players were given black jerseys to wear at home games.

In 1978 the font was changed again and in 1983, the team reverted to the previous style of wearing button-down tops and pants with belts. Another change in font followed, and it wasn’t until the year 2000 that another significant change was made. This time, traditional mixed with modern as the player names were taken off the back. The colour is also changed from white to cream like it had been in the past, and the font reverted back to a standard form of lettering. Furthermore, the road uniform was added with a black top in 2001.

All of these changes have made the Giants’ uniform what it is today. This design, along with those of all the other teams, helps to define the Giants and made them instantly recognizable to fans.
