Nike Hair-itage Shirts
Recently Nike released a line of shirts celebrating some of the great hair styles of the past few decades in Major League Baseball. They are calling these shirts the “Hair-itage” line and all in all they are pretty awesome. Anyone who loves baseball and loves baseball history (especially in the 70s-90s) will instantly recognize most of the silhouttes in these shirts. All in all there are 19 shirts available (scroll to the bottom of the page to see them all) and a couple they should have (I would LOVE to see an Orioles Eddie Murray shirt with the awesome chops). But here are a couple of my favorites:
1. Philadelphia Phillies – Mike Schmidt – Three time MVP, 9 time Gold Glove, 6 Silver Sluggers, he led the league in slugging percentage 5 times, OPS leader 5 times, 8 time NL home run leader… The stats don’t lie: Mike Schmidt is one of the best third basemen of all time. With 548 home runs and 1595 RBIs Schmidt was one of the best sluggers of his era (any era for that matter) and really doesn’t get enough love.
This shirt shows off his great red hair that hung out from beneath his hat and his awesome moustache that should be the envy of every man who ever walks the planet. If every guy could grow a stache like that the world would be a better place. This is a sweet looking shirt any Phillies fan should love. Order one for only $19.99 today.
2. Seattle Mariners – Randy Johnson - At 6’10″ with a 98 MPH fastball and one of the most wicked sliders of all time Randy Johnson was one of the most intimidating pitchers of all time. With that mullet and moustache flowing he was a sight to behold on the mound. Over his career he racked up 303 wins and 4875 strikeouts. If you average that out over 162 games that is 17 wins and 271 strikeouts per season for 22 freakin seasons! With the Diamondbacks from 1999-2002 Randy Johnson won 4 straight Cy Young awards and he also picked up one in 1995 with the Seattle Mariners.
The Big Unit (yeah, I still giggle a bit when I say that name) was with out a doubt one of the greatest pitchers of his era if not the greatest. Some of the numbers he put up were just sick and when you add in stuff like him chucking one behind Kruk in the all star game, destroying a dove with a fastball, and his “maybe they’ll start calling me the Long Unit” commercial he has to be one of the coolest guys ever. There is even a restaurant in Arizona that has a 3 foot chili dog named “The Big Unit”. Order this shirt today for only $19.99
3. New York Yankees – Don Mattingly – The first thing I think of when I hear the name Don Mattingly is Mr. Burns yelling at him to shave his sideburns on the episode of the Simpsons where Burns recruited a bunch of ringers for his company softball team. Add in the sweet moustache and you have a pretty good looking shirt. Order yours today for $19.99
All told there are 19 Nike Hair-itage shirts available. Check below to find your favorite hair and your favorite team:
